BOOKS BARDS AND BARBS. By Omoseye Bolaji

What do we make of Omoseye Bolaji's new book, BOOKS BARDS AND BARBS? Certainly it is an important work that readers, bibliophiles and scholars etc will benefit from. The book underlines the author's long-standing love and passion for books and writers. Bolaji himself is recognised as one of the relatively very few African writers who have created and written a regular series on a detective, a sleuth - The Tebogo Mokoena Mystery series. A number of Bolaji's works have been reviewed on this blog over the years.
Hence we are not surprised that in this new book the author focuses on many books that fall under the Mystery/Detective/Suspense genre; for example, here we read some of Bolaji's thoughts on writers (and books) like Sidney Sheldon, John Grisham, and Leslie Mieir. But not only Eurocentric writers. This new work also shows how much Bolaji appreciates African writers who have done well in this genre too; he particularly likes Dillibe Onyeama, Sunday Adebomi, Cyprian Ekwensi, and Victor Thorpe

  3. What a book! Mr Bolaji at his best and most "literary". I loved many of the features especially the focus on Camara Laye's books; and the one zeroing in on Palmer''s great work on early African novels

  8. BOOKS BARDS AND BARB is a very satisfying work - one is even enamoured with the title. All Bs - books bards barbs. Seems there is even a tinge of alliteration. Allusions too? That is the world of literature I guess. Books

  11. How many books has Omoseye Bolaji published? I have heard many discussions about this, and it appears the author himself is rarely drawn into discussing the issue. Is it 20 books, 30, or even 40? An indication can be drawn from Wikipedia which lists well over 30 titles by the author. Anyway, with two new books out almost at the same time early this year, it is fair to say the author is quite a prolific African writer. The new work on Books is certainly one of his most important publications.

  12. It is indeed evident that the great Bard never sleeps, and whenever an avid reader mentions his works one ponders where to start, from tebogo to poetry to reviews whenever his works of art are mentioned in SA and the Free State... Ntate Bolajis name comes up without searching, and how he still manages to pen such glory is still a mystery for us infants, but if you are looking for a river of inspiration that never dries up year after year, look no further... Because this prolific young at heart Maestro delivers divine consistency beyond the 7 seas of reflections .... I'm really looking forward to the new installment! Books Bards and Barbs!!! Congrats Tower!
